Call for journalists

The old model of news is dead: newspapers are dying, journalists laid off, and everything is moving online. This is old news now. The question is how the creators of news — journalists themselves — can reach and interact with their target audience effectively.

Moving online successfully requires a wealth of technical expertise and business acumen. Transformations like those of TechCrunch, the Huffington Post, and VentureBeat have been orchestrated by people with a large amount of technical ability who spent a great deal of time working on their business. This is difficult and time consuming to replicate.

Our mission is to create a simple, powerful platform for your voice. We allow you to focus on your craft while we focus on the tools and infrastructure for growing your online readership and brand.

What do we do for you?

As a journalist, you like to focus on the content. We handle everything else. We discuss the most important aspects of our service—bringing you readers and revenue—below. You may also like to look at the services we'll be building over the coming months.

Generate online readership

The advantage of moving online is that it is possible to gather much more information about your readers: who they are; what parts of your article are most read and discussed; when and where to position your article for maximum impact; and how to generate traffic. We can help you generate online readership using tools such as trend analysis, web analytics and reader demographics.

Generate revenue

“We must, indeed, all hang together, or most assuredly we shall all hang separately — Benjamin Franklin”

By bringing a large number of journalists together online, we can create revenue opportunities that aren't available otherwise. We are able to take advantage of network effects to increase the traffic to your work, the size of the community, and your revenue.

We generate revenue for you through advertising, syndication, affiliate links, sponsorship and subscriptions. We are actively working on other revenue models to help you succeed. You will receive 80% of all revenue generated from your work. NewsLabs uses the remaining 20% for operations and its own revenue, and as such, only makes money when you do.

Should you sign up?

If you have not started building your brand online, NewsLabs makes this as pain free as possible, with no downsides. You do not have to solve any of the business or technical problems of successfully moving online.

You retain the rights to all your work. As a result, you can easily move away from NewsLabs, should you choose to for any reason.

When and where is this happening?

Right now, on NewsTilt! We launched in April, and are currently looking for journalists to sign up to the service.
